8D7N - EXPLORING ROMANIA 

 

Description

 

1st Day
Even it’s a short time to visit all the beautiful and representative landmarks of Romania, we shall explore together the most interesting areas of Romania.
After landing in Bucharest we shall take you to the hotel and then have a relaxing walk in old town area of the city. If time allows we shall visit the Village Museum and pass by other historic buildings.

2nd Day
We have two options to reach Sibiu, one is through the amazing Transfagarasan Road – Top Gear UK TV Show “favourite road in the world” and the other is the easy regular drive. Going through Transfagarasan Road will take at least 2 hours more, due mostly to the endless U turns and reaching an altitude of 2034 meters. 
In the late afternoon/evening we shall reach Sibiu – 2007 European Capital of Culture and the first town of Transylvania on our list. Small and Large Squares plus Liars’ Bridge are first on the list, then we shall stop for a spectacular panoramic view of the city from Council Tower.

3rd Day 
Today we head to Maramures region with its famous Wooden Churches. Though, our first stop will be at Fortified Church from Calnic part of UNESCO World Heritage. We continue with few of the Wooden Churches, the ones in Budesti and Poienile Izei included as well on UNESCO World Heritage list. We shall visit then one of the most interesting cemeteries in the world – Merry Cemetery. On the opposite, we shall later get to a sad part of Romania’s history, Sighet Memorial - located now in the former famous communist prison where thousands of important opponents of the communists were tortured or even had their last days.

4th Day
It’s time today for a very special trip. MOCANITA – the only train in Europe still uses the steam engines – dates back in 1910, so now more than a century ago. After the trip we shall reach into Moldova region and later shall visit Bucovina region with their unique painted monasteries: Moldovita, Sucevita and Voronet – part of UNESCO World Heritage. A nice part of Bucovina will welcome us in the evening - Gura Humorului where we accommodate.

5th Day 
Before leaving Gura Humorului we shall visit Humour Monastery registered within UNESCO World Heritage and then cross back to Transylvania through the beautiful area – Bicaz Canyon. Later we reach Red Lake – at an altitude of over 1000 meters formed over two centuries ago. In the evening we accommodate in Sovata.

6th Day 
We are back in Transylvania now, visiting first the Praid Saline before reaching Sighisoara – a very well kept medieval town. We shall visit Sighisoara and Medieval Citadels, Citadel Square, Clock Tower and Dracula’s House – where Vlad the Impaler grew up (famous world-wide as Dracula from Bram Stoker’s novel). Other historical buildings like Stag and Venetian Houses, Church from the Hill, Church of the Dominican Monastery await us.

7th Day 
On our way to another beautiful medieval town, Brasov, we will reach the favourite village of Prince Charles, Viscri. We shall visit the Fortified Church and Peasant Citadel of Viscri included in UNESCO World Heritage. Later we arrive in Brasov, where we can take a relaxing walk in the historical centre and visit the Black Church. Then we shall stop to visit Peles Castle, one of the Romanian Royal Family residences.

8th Day 
Depending on the time of your flight back home we can visit the House of People – actual Palace of Romanian Parliament, second largest administrative building in the world. Also nearby is the Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral and Patriarch Palace (built 1654-1658) – the centre of Romanian Orthodox Church. Then we shall drive you to the airport.
