Important monuments or buildings can be seen in the National Art Museum, the Romanian Athenaeum, Kretzulescu Church, the University of Bucharest – founded in 1964, the Central University Library.

We will pick you up from the hotel and then start exploring Bucharest by combining a relaxed walk with sightseeing

1)      The Village Museum – second largest outdoor museum in Europe which shows only a small part of the traditional Romanian life from centuries ago. Visiting the museum will help you see back in time of different parts of Romania, but still being in present day Bucharest.

2)      On the way to our next stop, we will pass by The Arch of Triumph – inaugurated in September 1936 to honour Romanian soldiers from WWI and which is very popular for the parades on the 1st of December – National Day of Romania

3)      We will walk along the enchanting Victoria Avenue – oldest boulevard in the city, to arrive at the Revolution Square and later at University Square, two landmarks of Romanians’ fighting for their freedom. On bloody December 1989 the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu addressed for the last time the Romanian people from the balcony of the Central Committee Building. Traces of the bullets from those days could be seen on the nearby buildings for many years.

4)      Very near other important monuments or buildings can be seen:  the National Art Museum located in the former Royal Palace, the Romanian Athenaeum – an iconic concert hall,  Kretzulescu church – built in the Brancovenesc style, and, last but not least, The University of Bucharest - founded in 1964 and the Central University Library

5)     The tour continues with a relaxed walk to the nearby Old Town area, where we can see other historic buildings of the city including Stavropoleos Church, Palace of Justice, History Museum, and National Bank of Romania. We can stop for lunch at one of the traditional and most popular beer houses in Bucharest, Caru’ cu Bere – opened in 1879, or simply have some refreshments at one of the nice street cafés/restaurants nearby

6)     Also in Old Town area we will visit the Old Court - the residence of Vlad The Impaler (the inspiration for Bram Stocker's Dracula), Princely Church - the oldest church in Bucharest, and Manuc’s Inn – one of the oldest and best known inns in Bucharest

7)     The Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral and Patriarch Palace (built 1654-1658) – the centre of the Romanian Orthodox Church

8)     Palace of Parliament – second largest administrative building in the world, designed by a team of 700 architects. It holds the record for the most expensive administrative building ever built (around 3 billion EURO) and the heaviest one. The construction started in 1984 with the demolition of a stadium and around 40,000 houses plus important historic buildings – National Monuments, and completed in 1997. It now houses the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, three museums, and a conference centre. Inside a guided visit tour is available.

After completing the tour, we will drive you back to the hotel.
